IROS Travel Grants for US Students

(Priority given to Presenting Student Authors who are US Citizens/Permanent Residents)

Students who are US citizens or permanent residents in the US, and who are planning to present their work at IROS 2010, are invited to apply for a travel grant support by the NSF. Since funds are limited, students must submit an application following the submission guidelines. This grant will cover partial airfare reimbursement for coach/economy class on US flag carriers only. The deadline for submitting an application is 07/23/2010, and awards will be announced by 08/13/2010. Travel funds will be distributed as reimbursements upon submission of receipts, a brief trip report and uploading a copy of the abstract and PowerPoint presentation after the conference.

Application Procedure

The application for travel funds consists of an email from the advisor of the applicant, sent to iros.travel.award@gmail.com with "IROS Travel Grant Application" as the subject line. The email should contain the following information, prepared by the student, but sent by the student’s advisor:

1. The name of the applicant, the applicant's email address and university, and verification that the applicant is a student and a U.S. citizen or permanent resident at the time of the submission of the request for travel funds.

2. The number and title of the paper the applicant will present at IROS 2010, and a one-sentence description of the technical area of interest of the paper.

3.  A brief description (e.g., one paragraph) of the expected impact of participation in IROS 2010 on the applicant's professional development.

4. If applicable, the funding agency, grant title, and grant number under which the research was performed.

5. The sources of travel funding available for the applicant that make up the difference between the real costs and the partially subsidized air ticket. Note that this travel grant will not cover all expenses, so other funding sources must be available.
